This route climbs Buckbarrow from free roadside parking beside the hamlet of Greendale, at about 80 m. No bus stop with a current service lies within 6 km.

Buckbarrow is 423 m high, 196th of the 214 Wainwrights by height, and belongs to the Western Fells in Book 7. The line to its top is 1.8 km long and gains about 340 m.

It opens with about 130 m on the lane, crossing Greendale Gill at about 140 m, before the path leaves the road. From there almost everything is on paths that are not graded for difficulty on the map. The ground rises slowly at first, then between 0.3 km and 1.2 km the path climbs from about 95 m to 350 m, the steepest part of the walk.

The last 600 m are gentler, rising from about 350 m to 420 m. The final 50 m or so are graded mountain hiking by OpenStreetMap, and a cairn marks the summit at 423 m.

Very little of the line is on public rights of way in the LDNPA data, about 50 m of footpath and bridleway. About 1.7 km crosses open access land, where walkers have a right of access on foot.

The GPX file is the same line, from the parking to the summit. Return the same way, or plan a longer walk with a map before you set out.
