This route climbs Grey Crag from free roadside parking at Sadgill, with room for about six cars, at about 195 m. No bus stop with a current service lies within 6 km. Grey Crag is 638 m high, 118th of the 214 Wainwrights by height, and belongs to the Far Eastern Fells in Book 2.

The line is 2.5 km long and gains about 450 m. It starts on a track, briefly the one OpenStreetMap names Gatescarth Pass, then turns onto a footway with a ground surface on the map. That footway is on paths the landowner opens by permission rather than public rights of way.

The climbing comes in two steps. In the first 600 m the path rises from about 195 m to 400 m. After a gentler stretch it passes Great Howe at about 1.2 km, and from there it stays close to 490 m for about 300 m.

The route crosses Stockdale Beck at about 1.75 km and then climbs again, from about 515 m to the top at 638 m. It leaves the mapped path for the last 10 m to a summit cairn. No part of the line is graded for difficulty on the map.

Almost none of the line is a public right of way in the LDNPA data, only about 10 m of byway. The permissive footway is about 750 m long, and about 320 m of it lies outside open access land. In all, 2.1 km of the line crosses open access land.

The GPX file is the same line, from the parking to the summit. Return the same way, or plan a longer walk with a map before you set out.
