Wetherlam is 763 m high, 56th of the 214 Wainwrights by height, and belongs to the Southern Fells in Book 4. This route starts from the National Trust's car park at Low Tilberthwaite, which is free and sits at about 155 m. The nearest bus stop with a current service is Monk Coniston Hall, about 2.9 km away in a straight line, served by the 505.

The line is 3.1 km long and gains about 630 m. After a few metres of lane it follows footpaths, with several short flights of steps on the map, one of them stone. It crosses Yewdale Beck at about 520 m.

The first 1.1 km climb steadily, from about 155 m to 315 m. The steep part follows. From about 1.13 km the path is graded mountain hiking by OpenStreetMap, and between 1.1 km and 2 km it rises from about 315 m to 625 m.

After that the gradient eases. A path with a grass surface on the map climbs from about 640 m at 2.1 km to 730 m at 2.8 km, and the last 300 m reach the summit cairn at 763 m.

About 2 km of the line follows public footpaths, and 3 km crosses open access land.
