At about 1.35 km the route joins the path OpenStreetMap names The Band, a long path graded mountain hiking with a grass surface on the map. It climbs for 3 km: about 300 m at 2 km, 520 m at 3 km and 620 m at 4 km. The route passes Three Tarns at about 4.4 km and 720 m, then climbs the last 700 m, mostly graded mountain hiking, to the summit cairn at 903 m.
About 3.9 km of the line follows public footpaths and 3.8 km crosses open access land. Two short sections near the car park, about 100 m in all, are on neither in the data.
Bowfell is 903 m high and belongs to the Southern Fells in Book 4.
