This route climbs Hallin Fell from a free parking area at Martindale, on the east side of Ullswater. It sits at about 225 m, so a good part of the fell's 388 m is below you before you start. The nearest bus stop with a current service is Cattle Grid in Martindale, about 500 m away, served by the UB1.

The line is about 800 m long and gains about 160 m, one of the shortest routes to a Wainwright summit on this site. It leaves the parking on a short track and a lane, then follows a single footpath all the way to the top.

The climb is steady from start to finish. The path passes about 280 m at 300 m in, 330 m at 500 m, and reaches the summit at 388 m. OpenStreetMap grades the middle 350 m of the path mountain hiking, one step above its easiest grade, and the rest hiking.

Nearly all of the line crosses open access land; only a few tens of metres near the start are public rights of way. The route ends a few metres from the mapped path, at the summit point.

Hallin Fell is 388 m high, 203rd of the 214 Wainwrights by height, and belongs to the Far Eastern Fells in Book 2.

The GPX file is the same line, from the parking to the summit. The quickest return is the same path.
