Stone Arthur is 504 m high, 174th of the 214 Wainwrights by height, and belongs to the Eastern Fells in Book 1. This route starts from Broadgate Meadow car park in Grasmere, a paid council car park at about 70 m, also used by the Fairfield and Helm Crag routes. The Village Hall bus stop is about 70 m away, with the 555, 559 and 599.

The first 1.1 km are nearly flat, staying below about 100 m. They follow Broadgate and Swan Lane through the village, a few metres of main road and then a lane, crossing the River Rothay at about 360 m and Greenhead Gill at about 470 m.

The climb starts at about 1.2 km and hardly lets up. Between 1.3 km and 2.3 km the path rises from about 130 m to 390 m, and by 2.5 km it is at about 430 m. A smaller path takes over for the last 240 m to the top at 504 m, and the route leaves it for the last few metres. No part of the line is graded for difficulty on the map, and no cairn is mapped at the top.

About 1.9 km of the line follows public footpaths, 1.4 km crosses open access land and about 420 m is on roads. About 350 m is on none of these in the data: the first 220 m out of the car park and a stretch of footway at about 0.7 km. The Fairfield route shares the first 2.6 km of this line.

The GPX file runs from the car park to the summit and no further. Return the same way, or plan anything longer with a map before you go.
