This route starts from free roadside parking near Dunmail Raise, at about 235 m, and climbs Dollywaggon Pike. The Dunmail Raise bus stop, served by the 555, is about 500 m away in a straight line.

The line is 2.9 km long and gains about 620 m. It crosses Raise Beck after about 50 m. The first 1.2 km are a long, steady climb, rising from about 235 m to 505 m.

The middle kilometre is much easier. Between 1.2 km and 2.2 km the line gains only about 95 m, reaching about 600 m. Then comes a sharp pull: between 2.2 km and 2.6 km it climbs from about 600 m to 790 m. The last 340 m rise more gently to the top at 859 m, where a cairn is mapped.

The route is on paths all the way, and none of them is graded for difficulty on the map. Only about 100 m of the line follows public footpaths and bridleways, but 2.9 km, nearly all of it, crosses open access land, where walkers have a right of access on foot.

Dollywaggon Pike is 859 m high, 18th of the 214 Wainwrights by height, and belongs to the Eastern Fells in Book 1.
