This route climbs Knott from free roadside parking with room for about six cars, at about 270 m. No bus stop with a current service lies within 6 km.

The line is 3.6 km long and gains about 450 m. The first 390 m follow an asphalt lane, crossing Poddy Gill at about 240 m, and a short track takes the route over Grainsgill Beck at about 400 m. From there it is a path all the way to the top, and none of it is graded for difficulty on the map.

The steepest stretch comes early. Between 0.5 km and 1 km the path climbs from about 310 m to 475 m, then keeps rising more steadily to about 620 m at 2 km, passing close to Coomb Height. The next 400 m are nearly level at about 625 m. The final kilometre climbs gently at first, then more firmly over the last 500 m, from about 660 m to the summit cairn at 710 m.

About 430 m of the line follows a public bridleway, about 390 m is on the lane, and almost all of it, 3.6 km, crosses open access land.

Knott is 710 m high, 82nd of the 214 Wainwrights by height, and belongs to the Northern Fells in Book 5.
