Pike of Stickle is 708 m high, 83rd of the 214 Wainwrights by height, and belongs to the Central Fells in Book 3. This route climbs it from the National Trust's Stickle Ghyll car park. Parking is paid, the car park sits at about 90 m, and the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel bus stop is about 160 m away, served by the 516. The Harrison Stickle route shares the car park and the first 150 m of path.

The line is 3 km long and gains about 620 m. After about 150 m of path the landowner opens by permission rather than public rights of way, it follows a rocky bridleway and crosses Dungeon Ghyll at about 0.5 km. The next stretch rises from about 160 m to 420 m by 1.3 km. The map shows many short flights of rock steps here.

The path eases between 1.3 km and 1.9 km, climbing only from about 420 m to 510 m, then steepens again, with more rock steps, to about 630 m at 2.2 km. The route passes Thorn Crag at about 2.2 km and Loft Crag at about 2.4 km, and up to 2.9 km stays between about 640 m and 680 m.

OpenStreetMap grades two short sections demanding mountain hiking, a step harder than the rest of the route: about 20 m at 2.75 km, and the final 45 m, mostly rock on the map, to the summit cairn at 708 m.

About 2.5 km of the line follows public footpaths and bridleways, and about the same distance crosses open access land.

The GPX file follows this line from the car park to the summit. Return the same way, or plan another descent with a map before you set out.
