This route climbs Bleaberry Fell from a paid National Trust car park at about 170 m. The Derwentwater Youth Hostel bus stop at Ashness, about 600 m away in a straight line, is served by the 78.
The line is 3 km long and gains about 430 m. It begins with about 120 m of lane, crossing Barrow Beck at Ashness Bridge, then turns onto a path. The early going is the part OpenStreetMap grades mountain hiking: a path and then a gravel bridleway, from about 130 m to 1.2 km along. In that first kilometre the line climbs from about 165 m to 315 m.
Beyond the bridleway the path is not graded for difficulty on the map. It climbs steadily to about 430 m at 2 km, then runs almost level for about 200 m. The last 700 m hold the steepest ground, rising from about 440 m to the top at 590 m and ending on a path with a stone surface on the map. The final few metres leave the mapped path for the summit point.
About 1.3 km of the line follows public footpaths and bridleways, and 2.9 km crosses open access land.
Bleaberry Fell is 590 m high, 132nd of the 214 Wainwrights by height, and belongs to the Central Fells in Book 3.
