Grasmoor is 852 m high, 20th of the 214 Wainwrights by height, and belongs to the North Western Fells in Book 6. It is the highest fell in that book. This route climbs it from a free car park by Crummock Water, at about 110 m. The Crummock Water car park bus stop at Lanthwaite, about 20 m away, is served by the 77.
The line is 2.8 km long and gains about 740 m, climbing almost the whole way. After the first 35 m, every part of the path is graded mountain hiking by OpenStreetMap. The route crosses Cinderdale Beck at about 270 m.
The first kilometre climbs from about 110 m to 385 m. Between 1.1 km and 1.6 km the gradient eases a little, from about 410 m to 495 m. After that it steepens again, and the line gains about 330 m in the next 900 m, reaching about 826 m at 2.5 km. The last 290 m rise gently to the top at 852 m. OpenStreetMap maps a shelter at the summit, and the final few metres leave the mapped path.
About 1.2 km of the line follows public footpaths, and 2.7 km crosses open access land.
The GPX file is the same line, from the car park to the summit. Return the same way, or plan another descent with a map before you set out.
