High Street is 829 m high, 25th of the 214 Wainwrights by height, and belongs to the Far Eastern Fells in Book 2. It is the highest fell in that book. This route starts from Mardale Head car park, which is free, has room for about 25 cars and sits at about 250 m. No bus stop with a current service lies within 6 km.

The line is 3.5 km long and gains about 600 m. It crosses the car park, a few metres of road and a short stretch of the track OpenStreetMap names Gatescarth Pass, crossing Gatescarth Beck at about 40 m. A path graded hiking then passes close to Haweswater Reservoir and crosses Mardale Beck at about 320 m.

The first 600 m stay close to 250 m. From there a long path, not graded for difficulty on the map, climbs to about 430 m by 1.5 km, runs almost level to 1.8 km, and rises again past Blea Water at about 2.1 km and 490 m.

The final 900 m are the steepest part, graded mountain hiking by OpenStreetMap: from about 600 m at 2.6 km to 813 m at 3.3 km, then easing to the top at 829 m. The route leaves the mapped path for the last 10 m. No cairn, trig pillar or shelter is mapped at the summit point.

About 620 m of the line follows public footpaths, with 87 m of byway open to all traffic, and 3.1 km crosses open access land.
